This year inspiring words from a remarkable source resonated with the hunger for adventure in me. She told me “Take the trip now. Work, family, responsibility, it will all still be here when you return”.

This gave me the ammunition (and the swift kick in the arse) I needed to realize I can make this happen and turn this dream into a tangible reality! My first thought was to call my sister pitch the idea and put a plan into action! I needed to find a way to save money so the trip needed to be far enough out to save and close enough for my restlessness. Our goal was to get the most authentic experience, sightseeing and to immerse ourselves in the culture. I looked up tons of travel sites Travelocity, Expedia, Groupon to name a few and even prices of booking flights alone. Nothing seemed just right for the prices we found. The Summer months seemed to busiest and most expensive, the shoulder season seemed to fit and it gave just enough to time to save for the adventure without breaking the bank! After many woman hours of research we found I was in awe to find that we could customize the trip! Initially the destination was Rome, I was able to add in Paris and Barcelona with connecting flights AND get the returning flight home from the last destination. Everything is in place to pay and then there were payment options!? These broke the trip down into 3 payments as follows: half paid up front, then the second half split into two payments: 1month after first payment and the final 1 month before leaving. Mind Officially Blown!!

The result-
Beginning in Paris 3 days/nights
Accommodation: Hotel
Then to Barcelona for 3 days/ nights
Accommodation: Hotel
Last but definitely not least 6 in Rome (Day trip to Amalfi Coast/ Positano (Anything can happen)
Accommodation: Airbnb in Trastevere

Booking 6 months ahead gave plenty time for research, savings, passports and other details in advance. Note- If this is your first time out of the country and do not have a passport this should be at the top of your list of things to do, maybe even before booking your trip.
Good questions to ask yourself to get the most out of your adventure (contrary to popular belief talking to yourself is quite normal, go for it!) :
What do I want to get out of this destination or trip?
What kind of experience do I want to have?
Realistically what is my budget?
Would this experience be best Solo or with the right companion? (If you are on unsure about the companion… let’s just say theres your answer)
Besides arriving and leaving how planned and structured do I want the trip to be?
Accommodations: hotel, hostel, couch surf or Airbnb? (All very different experiences)

Find what inspires you? If you lost your adventure I challenge you to find it whether in your city or in another travelers. Your most uncomfortable moments are your biggest opportunities for growth!
